ViPA Demonstrates its Ability as SWIT Flies Through Subsea Trial

PRLog (Press Release) - Sep 06, 2011 - Injecting aston martin seawater into reservoirs for pressure maintenance and incremental enhanced oil recovery is a long established practice, normally involving water treatment processes and high pressure pumps located on platform topsides.

The next logical evolutionary step is moving closer dodge to reality whereby the seawater would not have to make the lengthy return journey via the topsides for treatment.  Instead the treatment processes would be performed alongside the injection pump at the subsea wellhead, giving operators greater flexibility in the optimal siting of subsea injection wells and removing the constraints imposed by the number of well slots available on the host platform.

Since its conception in 2002, the SWIT (Subsea Water Intake and Treatment) has gone through several acura phases of development. Phase 3 of the development process involved testing a full scale pilot plant on the bottom of Oslofjord in Norway from July 2009 to October 2010 (15 months). In order to monitor the solids reduction achieved by the SWIT process, an accurate method of monitoring particle sizes was required. It was felt that the ViPA had a lot to offer for monitoring of the seabed treatment system due to its on-line monitoring capabilities and its potential to be marinised for duty subsea. Of particular interest was to be able to obtain data for a range of solids variables including: solids concentration, particle sizes and optical density. This JIP enabled a topsides trial of this equipment, prior to its full marinisation.

During the test period, several different methods were used for measuring solids in the control and treated water pipelines:-

•   The Jorin ViPA•   Total Suspended Solids (TSS)•   Silt Density Index (SDI)•   Turbidity•   Visual Inspection of 0.45 micron Millipore filters•   Visual inspection of solids settled out in the still room after retrieval

Dave Pinchin, CTO of Seabox, said "The most informative of the above methods was the Jorin ViPA. Live images from the ViPA video microscope system were available on a computer screen at all times. This allowed operators to physically see the solids particles, their sizes and the amounts present as well as the condition of the flow cell with respect to cleanliness. While vast amounts of data were generated it was easy to make comparisons between the influent and treated water and demonstrate the effectiveness of the SWIT."

Jorin's Managing Director, Nick Roth, said "…we are very pleased that we have been able to participate in this trial and contribute useful information. Not only was a lot of information gathered relating to the solids removal capabilities of the SWIT treatment system, but other relevant information gathered related to the VIPA itself includ bmw ing remote online operation, flow cell condition and cell cleaning intervals for seawater applications, as well as methods of operation"

Dave Pinchin reported "…we are now exploring methods to enable more information to be derived from the data produced and believe we have a good understanding of how to identify biological cells and determine how effectively their cell structure is destroyed by the antioxidants generated within the SWIT. Together with Jorin we are looking to take the next logical step and enable a subsea version of the ViPA to be developed."

Christie Brings the Magic of Digital Cinema to the Center of Science and Industry Museum in Ohio

PRLog (Press Release) - Sep 02, 2011 - It may be based on science, but the effect is pure magic for captivated audiences at the Center of Science and Industry Museum (COSI) in Columbus, Ohio, which selected two Christie Solaria™ Series CP2230 projectors to power chrysler its "Extreme Screen" theater – the largest screen in Ohio. The projectors deliver a seamless image across the giant screen, providing a visually stunning, high quality picture that dramatically enhances the effect of the theater's "heart pounding" sound system. COSI also selected Service Plus, provided by Christie® Managed Services™. The Service Plus offering will provide next-day parts delivery and 24/7 monitoring from Christie's Network Operations Center (NOC), ensuring the fastest, most reliable technical support and maintenance for the museum's projectors and connected devices.

Voted the No. 1 Science Center for families in the U.S. by Parents magazine, COSI attracts nearly 600,000 visitors every year.  It features 100,000 square feet of exhibit space with 300 interactive, hands-on exhibitions, special events, family programs and the country's only high wire unicycle act. At the heart of the innovati bmw ve museum is the colossal movie screen, which presents a wide variety of high definition content, from 2D and 3D movies and documentaries, to quality alternative content from Internet and fiber optic feeds.  All the presentations meet a grueling museum schedule that pushes the capacity of its projection system to maintain the highest level of performance, image stability, and operational reliability.

"We had pushed our old p rc helicopter and car market place rojection system to its absolute limit, and needed the latest and most reliable digital cinema technology that would do justice to the diverse, quality content we present," said COSI President and CEO, Dr. David Chesebrough. "The Christie Solaria Series projectors have proven to be a perfect choice."

According to Vince Butler of CLACO Equipment and Service, a Utah-based Christie Entertainment Solutions dealer that installed the system, COSI needed, not just a high-performance projection system bright enough to fill the huge screen, but one that was exceptionally reliable, easy to operate, maintain and service. And, to stay true to the museum's mission to utilize green technology to protect our planet, they also needed to be energy efficient.

"Christie projectors are backed by 80 years of industry experience, with a reputation for quality that is unmatched.  They also have lower energy requirements and produce less heat – so the projection booth doesn't need as much energy-guzzling air conditioning to keep it cool," said Butler.

Sean James, vice president of Christie Managed Services, noted that COSI chose the Service Plus plan, selecting from a menu of services that provides 24/7 remo car news te monitoring of the Christie projectors and connected devices.  Through this service, the museum gained access to a nationwide network of technicians for rapid response to technical issues, software upgrades and troubleshooting, as well as repair and replacement of parts for the next 10 years.

"We are pleased to play an important role in helping COSI bring the excitement of digital cinema technology to a new generation of museum goers," said James.

Drivers Breaking Law Due to Lack of Funds

PRLog (Press Release) - Sep 01, 2011 - It would seem that not all Britons are always on the right side of the law when it comes to driving, as a new poll by the UK's leading discount and voucher code website has revealed that a large number fail to meet certain deadlines, like MOT and Tax Disc renewals, due to financial constraints.

The study was conducted by www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, which the site carried out as part of research into the costs involved in driving. 1,927 UK drivers over the age of 18 were polled in the study and respondents were asked questions surrounding the outgoings they had related to their vehi buick cle.

When asked, 'Are you ever late to renew the tax disc on your vehicle?' 42% admitted that they were. To find out if any of these respondents were potentially breaking the law by leaving it late, MyVoucherCodes.co.uk asked if they still drove their vehicle anyway, whilst they didn't have a valid tax disc. The majority, 63%, said that they did.

The people polled were then asked 'Are you ever late to get your vehicle MOT'd by the expiry date on your previous MOT certificate?'  More than half, 51%, admitted that they were and when asked if they drove their car regardless of this in the meantime, 72% of these said they did.

The study also looked at car insurance policies and aimed to find out if anyone was ever late renewing their own policy. 29% said they had been in the past and two fifths, 39%, of these had still driven around without insurance until they go round to renewing their policy.

The total respondents who admitted that they had been late in either renewing their MOT, tax disc or car insurance were asked to give reasons as to why this was the case and were told to select all that applied from a list of possible answers.

According to the study, the top reasons were as follows:

1.   Not enough money at the time          61%2.   Forgot to do so                                    58%3.   Didn't get round to it                          42%4.   Couldn't be bothered                          23%5.   Didn't know it was time to do so        17%

Respondents were also asked if they had ever not bought new tyres for their vehicle when they knew it was probably a legal requirement to do so. Three quarters, 74%, admitted this had been the case in the past.

Mark Pearson, chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, commented on the findings:

"Making sure you have all the legal documents needed to be able to drive your vehicle is very important and people who are leaving it late and still driving round could face fines, or worse. I was surprised that so many had left things late due to a lack of money, but then again, keeping a car is expensive business.

"There are things consumers can do to cut the cost car news of thei dodge r vehicle bills. Shopping around for insurance is important, so never sign up for the first price you find. Also, we have many discounts available on site for things like half price MOTs and money-off at car garages which can be used to really bring the maintenance costs down."
